How to do Data Recovery from Microsoft Surface Devices Data that Won't Turn On

Microsoft Surface Blackscreen.

If your Surface won't turn on, there are several steps you can take to try to wake it up again:

1. Unplug all accessories connected to the Surface, then try to charge the Surface for 15 minutes

2. Try waking up the Surface with the keyboard shortcut (Ctrl + Shift + Win + B) if the Surface is connected to a keyboard, or pressing the volume-up and volume-down keys when the Surface is in tablet mode.

3. Force restart by pressing and holding the Power button for 20 seconds, you can watch the video How to Force Restart Surface

The above method doesn't work? Don't worry, if your SSD and HDD are not onboard (attached to the motherboard/logicboard), your data can still be saved.

Notes:

If you are going to perform data recovery but the device's CPU is damaged, data can still be saved with the following procedure:

1. For Surface Pro 3 and 4, the SSD can be removed because it is not integrated with the motherboard so the data still has a chance to be saved.

2. For Surface Pro 5, 6, and 7, there is a possibility that the motherboard is damaged because it is integrated with the SSD. The SSD can be moved for data rescue as long as there are no issues with the BitLocker. If there is a problem with BitLocker recovery, then the data cannot be saved.
