What Should I do if my iPhone/ iPod/ iPad Has Water Damage?

So your device has had some water damage - be it your iPhone, iPad or iPod. You start to panic and Google for solutions for hours. You're unsure of what you have to do or who to even call. Don't worry, you've come to the right place.

Why do smartphones take 3 days after receiving some water damage before showing any signs of severe problems? Corrosion takes approximately 2-3 days to destroy the motherboard, hence it is advisable to bring your device to a reliable technician who will be able to clean the corrosion in your device. In the meantime however, here are three things that you can do:

  2. Clean all visible water from the outside, and shake the device to ensure that the water damage move to the bottom of the docking or speaker.
  3. Use rice grains to eliminate moisture in the device overnight.

You will most likely need to replace the battery or LCD. Most importantly, you should not keep trying to turn your device on.

POTENTIAL PROBLEMS CAUSED BY WATER DAMAGE:

  1. Capacitor in the logicboard will still work, but will discharge the wrong current which will lead to noise or instability.
  2. Corrosion can make electronic route disappear, which means there is no connection at all. To solve this, you will need to replace the motherboard.
