Solution If You Can't Back Up Your iOS or iPadOS Device to Computer

Back Up Your iOS or iPadOS Device to Computer.

If you want to back up your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to your computer, but you get a notification that you failed to back up and can't restore your computer's backup device. You can take the following actions to resolve this:

  1. Make sure your Mac or PC is up to date. When you use iTunes, make sure you have the latest version of iTunes.
  2. Then, connect the device to the computer with a USB cable and find the device on the computer.
  3. Restart all devices.
  4. If you are using a Mac, skip this step. However, if you're using a Windows PC and iTunes doesn't respond or the backup doesn't complete, then you may need to update, change, disable, or uninstall your security software.
  5. If you have more than one computer, try backing up on another Mac or PC. Alternatively, use iCloud to back up your device and restore from the iCloud backup.
  6. If you see an alert stating an error occurred, your backup is corrupt or incompatible, or you have insufficient disk space, find your error message below to find out what to do next.
